Towers Overview

Tower Defense X fields a wide roster, but every serious clear still collapses into a few jobs: print cash, buff the board, clear waves, delete bosses, keep towers alive, and cover weird lanes (stealth, air, sea). This overview groups the meta-relevant towers by role so you can draft faster. For ranked paths open the Expert Tier List; for finished squads open Best Loadouts.

Dual paths and tower HP in one minute

Each tower has a top path and a bottom path. They are not cosmetic — bottom Railgunner is a boss laser; the alternate path is a different tool. Towers also have HP. Enemies that shoot back will delete unprotected Golden Juggernauts. That is why Medic and positioning matter as much as raw DPS charts.

Placement domains matter too: land, air, and sea. A perfect land squad still leaks on naval maps without Warship or another sea answer.

Economy

Farm

Farm is the economy cornerstone. Rank it S in both beginner and Expert contexts because expensive paths (Railgunner, Golden Juggernaut) miss their timing without income. Place Farms in pockets that are hard for enemies to shoot, upgrade them on schedule, and only pause Farm investment when a leak is imminent. See unlock priority on the Beginner Tier List.

Support

EDJ

EDJ (Encomium-DJ) deals no damage and still tops support rankings. Top path emphasizes firerate and range buffs; bottom path discounts upgrades for nearby towers. Both paths are S-tier. Aura placement is the skill expression — hug your DPS cluster. EDJ cannot buff every exotic tower type; learn exceptions as you meet them.

John

John is a damage amplifier and tempo tool. Top path is the Expert favorite for Rage windows that spike Laser Gunner and Juggernaut output. Place John where the amp actually touches your carries.

Commander

Commander provides team-wide combat buffs that stack beautifully with EDJ and John in co-op. Slightly more coordination-heavy than EDJ, excellent once you understand timing.

Medic

Medic is sustain support. On maps with heavy return fire, Medic converts “we almost had the cash” into actual wins by keeping Farm, GJ, and Railgunner alive. Bring Medic whenever your board is expensive.

General DPS and detection

Laser Gunner

Laser Gunner is the default reliable DPS with stealth answers on the appropriate path. Expert and Nightmare wipe when detection is missing. Keep Laser Gunner as the safety net even when Railgunner is your late boss carry.

Missile Trooper

Missile Trooper supplies burst and AoE cleanup for dense mid-game packs and fast enemies that slip past slow boss guns. Frequent flex pick in Greenlight-style Expert squads on Best Loadouts.

Heavy / boss DPS

Railgunner

Bottom path Railgunner is the premier boss and armored-target answer: huge damage, range, and stun resilience with long aim time and steep cost. Fund with Farm and bottom EDJ. Pair with a stealth partner because detection is often lacking. Set Strongest when bosses appear.

Juggernaut / Golden Juggernaut

Juggernaut lines are HP-aware sustained DPS. Golden Juggernaut is a Nightmare and Endless cornerstone. They shine when enemies shoot towers and you need a carry that does not evaporate. Protect with Medic.

Sea specialty

Warship

Warship exists because water lanes ignore your land fantasies. On sea maps Warship is effectively mandatory; on pure land maps it can sit on the bench. Always inspect the map before locking the final loadout slot.

TB II event towers

Unlocked and powered through the TB II / Raze the Void collab and its battle pass:

Scout

Scout brings Tower Battles-flavored early pressure plus a stealth-detection aura for towers in range. Excellent in Casual token farm squads and a strong Hard flex when you need faster wave breaks — the aura can also free Laser Gunner into pure DPS once the choke is covered.

Aviator

Aviator is dedicated air DPS with mobile coverage profiles that classic land cores sometimes under-serve. Practice in Casual before Voidmare (see Casual Token Farm).

Phaser

Phaser is a high-impact single-target laser event DPS option for dense / armored Void waves. Pair with EDJ so upgrade timing stays realistic, and with Medic so the pad survives focus fire on Nightmare / Voidmare.

Void Traitor

Void Traitor is the collab’s identity pick for players pushing Void God content. The Oct 1 balance pass made it feel closer to a late battle-pass carry when abilities are funded on schedule. Learn ability timing on Hard, then promote into Nightmare / Voidmare squads documented under Void God.

Event towers are powerful — they are not a license to drop Farm, EDJ, or stealth coverage.

Drafting workflow

  1. Pick mode: Easy → Nightmare classic, or TB II Casual / Hard / Nightmare / Voidmare.
  2. Lock Farm + EDJ + stealth DPS.
  3. Pick boss answer (Railgunner bottom vs Juggernaut / GJ).
  4. Fill flex for Medic, Missile Trooper, Warship, John, Commander, or TB II towers.
  5. Validate against Best Loadouts and path notes on the Tier List Hub.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Tower Defense X questions.

Which Tower Defense X towers are meta right now?

EDJ, Farm, Laser Gunner, bottom Railgunner, Juggernaut / Golden Juggernaut, top John, Missile Trooper, Medic, Commander, and Warship on sea maps, plus TB II Scout, Aviator, Phaser, and Void Traitor for event modes.

What does each dual path mean?

Top and bottom paths unlock different kits. Always rank and upgrade the path that matches the job — for example bottom Railgunner for bosses, top John for amp.

Why do my towers die on Expert?

Enemy units can damage tower HP. Add Medic, improve placement, and avoid leaving Farms and carries exposed.

Are TB II towers usable outside the event?

They are built for the collab modes and battle pass progression. Use them as flex picks once you understand their kits; keep classic economy and support spines for standard Expert.

Where should I go to build a full squad?

Use Best Loadouts for named mode squads after you understand roles on this page.
