TB II Tower Defense X BETA How to Beat Expert Mode

Air and stealth checks, economy timing, and Eradicator finale plans for TDX Expert.

How to Beat Expert

Expert Mode is Tower Defense X’s first true proving ground. Expect roughly forty-two waves, frequent air and stealth checks, enemies that damage or delete towers, and a finale built around the Eradicator family (including Destructor pairings and Eradicator MK II+ style endings depending on map and patch). If Easy through Elite felt comfortable, Expert is where missing roles and slow micro get punished.

This walkthrough assumes you already redeemed Codes, own core unlocks from Getting Started, and can hotkey upgrades from Controls. Path rankings that match this guide live on the Expert Tier List.

What makes Expert different

  • Tower HP matters. Bosses and special units stun, chip, or destroy your defense. Bring healing, bait, or both.
  • Detection is mandatory. Stealth packs and air lanes appear often enough that ground-only DPS loadouts leak.
  • Economy spikes. Maxing Railgunner and Juggernaut lines is expensive; Farm plus EDJ discounts are not optional luxuries.
  • Finale pressure. The last stretch pairs high-HP bosses with adds. Wrong targeting or a dead Medic line ends the run after forty waves of work.

Some towers receive Expert cost modifiers (for example cheaper Ranger, Missile Trooper, Operator, Shotgunner, or Grenadier). Use those discounts for early control, not as an excuse to skip late DPS.

A proven public-lobby / solo-friendly core—often called a Fort Classic style set—is:

  1. Laser Gunner — Early DPS, stealth and resist coverage depending on path.
  2. Farm — Funds expensive mid and late upgrades when damage Cash slows.
  3. EDJ — Firerate / range buffs and upgrade discounts; zero personal damage, massive team value.
  4. Railgunner — Long-range boss DPS; bottom path is the usual endgame nuke.
  5. Juggernaut — Durable mid-to-late DPS; swap to Golden Juggernaut when unlocked.
  6. John — Damage amp and cheap bait bodies that absorb chip from units like X Soldier.

Flex swaps when you need them:

  • Medic or Combat Medic if your group keeps losing maxed towers on the finale.
  • Missile Trooper for mid-Expert explosive DPS and resist bypass while saving for Railgunner.
  • Warship or other sea coverage on water maps.
  • Scout (Battle Pass unlock) later if you want aura stealth detection for the whole pad.

Named variations and co-op splits are catalogued on Best Loadouts. Role definitions sit on Towers Overview.

Co-op role split

Four-player Expert is smoother when jobs are assigned before wave one:

  • Player one: Farm + EDJ (economy and buffs).
  • Player two: Laser Gunner + stealth / air coverage.
  • Player three: Railgunner rush.
  • Player four: Juggernaut or Golden Juggernaut + John buffs / bait.

If someone disconnects, the remaining players must sell flex towers and rebuild detection first—not chase vanity DPS.

Wave plan (early → mid → finale)

Early game (waves ~1–15)

Place cheap Laser Gunner / John coverage on long contact lanes. Get Farm online quickly; one early Farm that reaches mid tiers beats three decorative level-0 pads. Mix Laser Gunner tiers until stealth detection is online before the first stealth wave. Keep most towers on First targeting.

Mid game (waves ~16–30)

Commit EDJ paths: bottom path discounts help Juggernaut and Railgunner price tags; top path buffs firerate and range for the cluster. Start your first serious Juggernaut. Bring air coverage online before dense flyer waves. Sell towers that can no longer see the lane or that sit in boss slam zones.

Late game into Eradicator (waves ~31–42)

Max Railgunner toward the boss path. Surround key DPS with EDJ aura and John amp. Set boss nukers to Strongest when the finale enters range; keep at least one cleaner on First so trash does not leak while everyone stares at the boss. Medic windows decide whether maxed towers survive percentage attacks and tower-killing skills. Replace dead pads immediately—empty space during Eradicator is a loss condition.

Exact wave scripts differ by map, but the pattern is stable: economy first, detection before pride, boss DPS before cosmetic duplicates.

Micro checklist for the finale

  1. Pre-set targeting on Railgunner / Juggernaut to Strongest.
  2. Keep EDJ alive; a dead discount / firerate aura stalls upgrades and DPS.
  3. Use John abilities on cooldown when the boss is in core range.
  4. Heal or Uber key towers if Medic is in the loadout.
  5. Sell useless early towers for Cash to finish the last Railgunner tiers.
  6. Watch tower HP bars—chip from supporting enemies often kills the run before the boss HP bar does.

Common ways Expert runs die

  • No Farm, then starvation at wave 25+.
  • No stealth or air detection, then sudden unexplained leaks.
  • Six damage towers and zero EDJ, then upgrades never finish.
  • Ignoring tower HP until Eradicator deletes your only Railgunner.
  • Leaving every tower on default targeting during the boss.
  • Solo queuing with a Nightmare fantasy loadout you cannot afford yet.

Practice route

  1. Clear Elite with the Expert six until it feels automatic.
  2. Attempt Expert on a map you already know from lower difficulties.
  3. After each wipe, write one sentence: economy, detection, or finale micro?
  4. Farm Gold between attempts with routes from Gold Farming so Golden Juggernaut and Medic unlocks arrive sooner.
  5. Cross-check paths on the Expert Tier List after balance patches.

After your first Expert clear

  • Collect map medals for Crystal and Gold bonuses.
  • Push Endless for Gold efficiency.
  • Prep Nightmare only after Expert feels consistent.
  • During the TB II collab, transfer the same economy + Medic lessons into Hard+ Void God fights (Void God, Battle Pass).

Expert is less about a secret tower and more about roles, timing, and refusing to leak detection. Nail the Laser Gunner / Farm / EDJ / Railgunner / Juggernaut / John core, and the Eradicator finale becomes a readable fight instead of a coin flip.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Tower Defense X questions.

How many waves is Expert Mode in TDX?

Expert runs about forty-two waves, ending in an Eradicator-family finale with heavy tower-damage pressure.

What is the best Expert Mode loadout?

A standard core is Laser Gunner, Farm, EDJ, Railgunner, Juggernaut, and John. Swap Juggernaut for Golden Juggernaut when unlocked, and add Medic if towers keep dying.

Why is EDJ required if it deals no damage?

EDJ buffs firerate and range and can discount upgrades. Maxed Railgunner and Juggernaut lines are too expensive and too slow without those auras.

Can I solo Expert as a new player?

Only after you clear Elite consistently, own Farm and EDJ, and understand targeting. Otherwise queue co-op with assigned roles.

What should I do after beating Expert?

Farm medals and Gold, unlock Golden Juggernaut and healing options, then try Endless. Attempt Nightmare only when Expert clears are reliable.
