Best Loadouts

Copying a random five-tower screenshot rarely beats Expert. These named loadouts assign jobs: who prints cash, who buffs, who detects stealth, who deletes bosses, and who covers water. Swap flex slots for map quirks, but keep the spine intact. Pair this page with the Expert Tier List, Towers Overview, and How to Beat Expert.

How to read each loadout

  • Spine — do not cut these towers.
  • Paths — follow the noted path; the other path is a different tool.
  • Flex — swap for Warship, Medic, or a TB II tower when the map demands it.
  • Goal — what the squad is optimized to clear or farm.

Always place EDJ so its aura hugs the main DPS cluster, and protect Farm from enemy fire with positioning or Medic.

Loadout: Expert Spine (“Greenlight”)

Goal: Consistent classic Expert clears on mixed land maps.

Notes: Bottom EDJ accelerates Railgunner upgrades; switch or add top EDJ vibes via placement and teammate supports in co-op. If the map has sea lanes, replace Missile Trooper with Warship. Practice Strongest targeting on Railgunner when bosses spawn. New players should confirm unlocks via the Beginner Tier List before forcing this squad.

Loadout: Nightmare Wall (“Gilded Gate”)

Goal: Nightmare and high-pressure Expert variants.

Notes: Nightmare punishes dead Farms and dead carries. Medic is not optional when enemies shoot towers. If cash is perfect and bosses are sponges, keep bottom Railgunner in the flex. For gold to afford Golden Juggernaut, use Gold Farming.

Loadout: Endless Sustain (“Hourglass”)

Goal: Long Endless runs where upgrade completeness and tower HP matter more than burst cheese.

Notes: Endless leaks often start when stealth or air answers were sold for greed. Keep Laser Gunner online. Rotate selling only after a replacement detector exists. Commander can replace John in co-op if buff stacking is coordinated.

Loadout: TB II Nightmare / Voidmare (“Raze Crew”)

Goal: High TB II difficulties inside the Void Realm / Genesis content. Read TB II Collab, Voidmare, and Void God first.

Event-tower notes (Raze Crew):

  • Scout — early pressure plus a stealth-detection aura for towers in range. Lets you free Laser Gunner into pure DPS once Scout’s aura covers the choke, or stack detection on Voidmare stealth spikes.
  • Aviator — dedicated air DPS. Bring Aviator when Void air packs outpace land cores; keep EDJ hugging the pad so firerate stays honest.
  • Phaser — single-target laser carry for dense / armored Void waves. Pairs cleanly with Medic so the laser pad survives focus fire while it deletes elites.
  • Void Traitor — ability-heavy late battle-pass pick. The Oct 1 balance pass made Traitor feel like a real Voidmare flex when abilities are funded on schedule; learn cooldowns on Hard before you trust it on peak Voidmare.

Notes: Do not drop Farm/EDJ/stealth just to flex four event towers. Voidmare rewards the same fundamentals as classic Nightmare with extra Void-specific timings. Learn each event tower in Casual (see Casual Token Farm) before locking them on Voidmare. PvP practice for mechanical timing lives on PvP Mode.

Loadout: Casual Token Farm (“Pass Grinder”)

Goal: Fast, low-stress clears for battle pass progress and TB II rewards. Deep dive: Casual Token Farm.

FlexVoid Traitor or whatever you unlock nextLearning slotBattle pass towers

Event-tower notes (Pass Grinder):

  • Scout — first pass unlock and the reason Casual clears feel freer. Plant Scout so its stealth-detection aura covers the main lane; use the free detection to experiment with greedier DPS slots.
  • Aviator — mid-pass air DPS spike. Swap weaker anti-air into Aviator as soon as tier 23 lands; Casual air leaks should basically stop.
  • Phaser — late-pass single-target laser. Even on Casual it melts stubborn elites; practice Medic pairing here so the habit exists before Nightmare.
  • Void Traitor — end-track unlock. Post-Oct 1 buffs reward ability timing; park Traitor in the flex slot on Casual loops until muscle memory is boring, then promote into Raze Crew.

Notes: Casual exists so you can learn Scout, Aviator, Phaser, and Void Traitor without Voidmare stress. After the late-September Casual reward nerf, Tokens/hour are tighter — reliable clears still beat wipe-prone Hard greed for most daily quotas. Use Pass Grinder to finish the 72-tier pass, then promote successful experiments into Raze Crew. Claim Codes when they grant cash or exclusive boosts.

Micro rules that make every loadout work

  1. Cover stealth before the wave that needs it — not during the panic.
  2. Bottom Railgunner without Farm/EDJ support arrives late and useless.
  3. One Warship beats zero Warships on sea maps; two Warships with no Medic can still die.
  4. In co-op, call roles: duplicate stealth is fine, duplicate nothing-but-DPS is not.
  5. Retune after patches listed on Updates.

Path reminders

  • EDJ both paths remain S support — see Expert Tier List.
  • John top, Railgunner bottom, Laser Gunner stealth route, Farm income, Juggernaut / GJ carry, Missile Trooper burst, Medic sustain, Warship sea, Commander buffs.
  • TB II: Scout, Aviator, Phaser, Void Traitor as flex/event cores.

Practice order

  1. Clear Intermediate with a beginner spine from the Beginner Tier List.
  2. Run Greenlight until Expert feels readable.
  3. Add Medic and GJ for Gilded Gate.
  4. Farm Casual with Pass Grinder while unlocking TB II towers.
  5. Attempt Raze Crew on Hard → Nightmare → Voidmare.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Tower Defense X questions.

What is the best Expert loadout in Tower Defense X?

A reliable spine is Farm, EDJ, Laser Gunner, bottom Railgunner, and top John, with Missile Trooper, Medic, or Warship in the flex slot depending on the map.

What should I run for TB II Casual farming?

Use the Pass Grinder loadout: Farm, EDJ, Scout, Aviator or Laser Gunner, and a cleanup tower, keeping one slot for whatever battle pass tower you are learning.

Do Endless loadouts differ from Expert?

Yes. Endless favors Golden Juggernaut, Medic, permanent stealth coverage, and long-term economy over pure burst cheese.

Can I replace EDJ in these squads?

You can try, but most Expert and Nightmare clears become slower and poorer without EDJ buffs or discounts. Replace flex slots first, not EDJ.

Where do I learn Void God specifically?

Follow the Void God guide after practicing the Raze Crew loadout on Hard and Nightmare, then use the Voidmare guide for peak-difficulty prep.
